Side Effects of Drinking Alcohol
What are the side effects of drinking alcohol? Alcohol can have negative effects on human body, depending on the frequency of use and the quantities, of course. Excessive consumption of alcohol can cause temporary unconsciousness, but extreme amounts can cause alcohol poisoning, as well as death. We will describe some of the side effects of moderate consumption of alcohol.
Alcohol Consumption Side Effects
According to certain researches, increased consumption of alcohol correlates with sleep deprivation. However, each person reacts differently. Some people can tolerate certain amounts of alcohol, while others can’t. On the other hand, different amounts of alcohol produce different effects. One person can experience different side effects, depending on how much alcohol he/she has had.
We know that alcohol can be extremely harmful to people who suffer from certain diseases. In fact, in such cases, alcohol is on the list of forbidden beverages. Long-term alcohol consumption can lead to serious health problems, some of which can result in death.
Moderate alcohol consumption (if a person is healthy) will probably lead to the following short-term side effects:
● Increased sociability
● Impaired judgment
● Mood improvement
● Flushed appearance
● Euphoria
● Decreased attention
● Increase in self-confidence
Slightly higher doses of alcohol can cause side effects like:
● Sedation
● Lethargy
● Delayed reactions
● Balance difficulty
● Blurred vision
● Unbalanced walk
● Impaired memory
● Impaired senses
● Profound confusion
● Impaired speech
● Confusion
● Analgesia
● Dizziness
● Nausea
● Vomiting
Heavy drinking can cause anterograde amnesia. This is what we call “black outs”. It is characterized by memory loss during the drinking episode (and after).
It is not hard to tell if someone is drunk. A person becomes very clumsy; he/she cannot properly articulate his/her body motions; some people are not aware of where they are and what they’re doing. This can be very frustrating, especially for other people. The worst thing about alcohol consumption is that you never know how a person may react when he/she is drunk.
In such situation, a drunk person must not drive (or operate any kind of machinery). Many tragedies have happened because of alcohol consumption. People usually think that ‘it won’t happen to them’, but the fact is that many people do not even notice that they are drunk. It usually starts with just one drink. Even if you only had one drink, you should not drive!
