More and more people consume this healthy beverage, but without wondering if there are any side effects of soy milk. Most of the population still drinks cow’s milk. soy milk and side effect
Soy milk contains the same amount of proteins as cow’s milk but contains no lactose. Some people may have allergic reactions to lactose, so consuming soy milk can be a solution for them. Also, it doesn’t contain any hormones at all. Nutritionists still recommend being cautious when choosing soy milk as a substitute for cow’s milk.
In case you plan to include it in your daily diet, be aware that some health issues may occur. It is not proven that soy milk diet causes total male infertility, but it reduces sperm production and thus the chances for impregnation are reduced. The risk is even greater for men who are overweight or obese. The other disadvantage is that soy milk contains very little vitamins comparing to pasteurized milk.
It lacks magnesium (very significant for calcium absorption) and zinc (crucial for immune system as well as for nervous and reproductive system). Not enough calcium and magnesium can cause osteoporosis, too. Soy milk might not be the best solution for diabetics or people with sugar intake issues.
The reason is that some brands of soy milk have rice syrup or evaporated can juice as sweeteners, which can cause insulin levels to go higher. It can result in weight gain as well as in high blood pressure. Another disadvantage of soy milk is the fact in contains polyunsaturated vegetable oils (fatty acids). Those acids can be unstable in our bodies and create toxic imbalance. They can cause certain cardiovascular diseases. Polyunsaturated vegetable oils can also be found in safflower, corn, soy bean, sunflower and cottonseed oils.
The best advice is to avoid all of these oils. Soy diet can produce negative effect on thyroid gland. Thyroid is responsible for making of thyroid hormone which maintains the brain, heart and muscles functions. The problem is that soy contains goitrogens which inhibits thyroid function. Before switching to soy diet, make sure to be informed as much as possible.
